Tempting, affordably priced food, served in a bright, freshly renovated space, marks the debut of The Pub at the Club: An American Bistro, the new restaurant and bar at Woodstock Golf Club, which is open to the public as well as the club’s members.
Following its July 10 grand opening, the restaurant will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 9 p.m. on Tuesday through Saturday and from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday. The bar, but not the restaurant, will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Monday.
The new establishment is operated by the golf club and managed by John Rizza, the club’s general manager. The food is prepared by Catskill Mountain Pizza Company, which since 1998 has been a popular presence in Woodstock, serving pizza and other fare at its 51 Mill Hill Road location. CMPC’s owners are Bryan Roefs and Linda Tiano.
“We are excited about the Pub at the Club,” said Tiano. “We had been looking for a new venture when the golf club contacted us. We thought that the Pub would benefit both of us. We are starting slowly and hoping to make it grow. The menu is similar to the food served at Catskill Mountain Pizza, but with a different twist.”
The bistro-style menu has four categories: salads, small plates, sandwiches, and dinners. Mixed-green, Caesar, and Cobb salads are priced at $5, $6, and $10, respectively. Small plates—there are nine choices—range from skin-on hot dogs ($2 apiece) and bacon-wrapped jalapeno peppers stuffed with goat cheese ($7) to a roasted-chicken quesadilla ($8) and fried calamari ($8). An eight-item selection of sandwiches, at $8 each, includes a burger, turkey club, tuna melt, Reuben, Monte Cristo, roast beef, and pulled pork. Three dinners, each priced at $15, are available: New York strip steak, with roasted garlic mashed potatoes; rigatoni, with Italian sausage, cream sauce, tomatoes, basil, and broccoli rabe; and eggplant Neapolitan, with tomato and fresh mozzarella.
The Pub’s opening coincides with the completion of a major renovation of the club’s bar. The bar’s walls have been repainted throughout, bringing a sense of brightness and spaciousness to the room. The removal of carpeting has revealed gleaming hardwood floor. A handsome flagstone footrest surrounds the bar itself. Further improvements are in the works, said Rizza. The plans include a new entrance, through the existing screened porch, that will lead patrons directly into the dining room, and an expansion of the deck that overlooks the Sawkill Creek at the southern end of the building.
